Parole Determination - Tara Gilbert

NB: A public review hearing for this offender was held 1 August 2023 with the decision reserved.

The State Parole Authority today handed down its decision for offender Tara Gilbert, determining parole is appropriate and in the interests of the safety of the community.

The offender is a citizen of New Zealand and on his release will be immediately deported from Australia.

In making its determination, the Authority considered a Community Corrections pre-release report and the expert recommendation of the Serious Offenders Review Council (SORC), advising release to parole was appropriate. The Authority also considered submissions from the victim’s family.

It noted there were no State Submissions opposing parole.

Gilbert will be released on parole a date not earlier than 15 August and not later than 22 August 2023.
